What is the Parish Pastoral Council?
St. John the Evangelist, like most other parishes, has a Parish Pastoral Council (PPC). Following a call for more lay participation in the parish mission as set forth in the Second Vatican Council, the PPC is comprised of the pastor and pastoral associate, plus twelve or more elected and appointed lay members. The purpose of the PPC is to assist the pastor in his leadership role of planning, organizing, initiating, promoting, coordinating and reviewing the evangelization, worship, service activities, and religious education/formation activities within the parish. The role of the Council is to support and advise the pastor by investigating, assessing and forming recommendations with respect to challenges faced by the parish and opportunities offered to us. The Council seeks to construct a “vision” for the future of our parish life and in so doing, to assist the pastor in planning for future needs.

Some of the objectives of the PPC:

  • To assess the needs of the whole parish and its members, and to assist the pastor in the development and implementation of a pastoral plan which will promote the common good of the parish.
  • To foster unity and a sense of community in the parish and to coordinate all parish activities in a manner that will best serve the interests of the parish.
  • To promote programs and activities in the parish.

The PPC meets monthly from September through June. Minutes from meetings will be posted here or can be obtained in the parish offices. If you have a concern you wish to forward to the council, you may contact the office, Chair, or any other member of the council
